☥ #1. Manon Black, Czech Republic
Experience and Brand Foundation – Manon has been working as a freelance designer since 2004. She has experience in traditional bespoke tailoring of wedding and ball gowns, as well as attempts to sell her own original designs at various fashion markets in the Czech Republic. In 2019, she founded her own black clothing brand, MANON, based on high-quality fabrics, her favorite cuts, and precise handcrafting. Manon participated as one of the sponsors for World Gothic Models’ contest Vampire Goddess 2019.
Business Model and Slow Fashion – After a temporary pause (due to the COVID-19 crisis and her work in maternity-wear design), she revived MANON with an e-shop in the Czech Republic. Her model relies on made-to-order production in her studio in Praha, focusing on durable, high-quality garments for everyday life.
Style and Aesthetics – The designer’s style is minimalist, incorporating elements of metal, fetish, and business fashion. She strives to create practical gothic clothing for everyday wear while breaking the subculture’s strict rules and stereotypes.
Collaborations and Events – Our Creative Manon Black has extensive experience organizing fashion shows and events (such as the first fetish party in České Budějovice – Manon Black Night). She actively collaborates with model Catherine de Crumbenowe, photographer Karolína Ryvolová, and bands like XIII. Století and Bratrstvo luny at the Night of the Troubadours. She made jewellery for many, mostly South Bohemian metal bands, and she won an award for it in a competition organised by Megaton Production for the best band merch. She has been collaborating with burlesque dancers on costumes for many years, most notably with Yassmine de Mortifere. Years ago, she had the honour of being featured in an article in MOmag magazine, and right from the start she briefly collaborated with Spark magazine on a band competition, where she organized the accompanying fashion show in collaboration with models from Suicide Angels.
Studio and Creative Process – Her studio in Prague features a photography space and a small garden full of black-flowering plants. She frequently handles photography, makeup, and modeling for her brand herself, and her 7-year-old black Great Dane, Antonín, occasionally participates in photo shoots. Her style is very minimalistic and veers into metal, has elements of fetish, and at times even crosses over into business fashion. She doesn’t like labels and rules. Overall styling can change everything and evolves with her mood, age, and life situation.
Specialties and styling – Manon’s work weaves gothic magic directly into daily life. Modern gothic style for unscripted moments—where theatricality yields to pure, everyday comfort. She creates professional pieces that satisfy office rules without compromising your dark, authentic self. Stepping far away from the shallow pulse of mass production, she breathes life into clothing through the deliberate ritual of slow fashion. In her cozy workshop in Prague, every single piece is lovingly handmade – either tailored to order or released in strictly limited, rare editions. Through minimalist cuts, precise tailoring, and high-quality fabrics, she creates timeless talismans built to endure the passage of time. With profound empathy, Manon honors the beauty of the “everyday goth” living in their natural element – far removed from airbrushed models or rigid ideals. She celebrates every stage of life, understanding how time reshapes our bodies, matures our taste, and softens dramatic style. Instead of relying on youthful tropes, she designs timeless gothic fashion that gracefully evolves with a dark soul over the years.
Personal Philosophy – Gothic fashion for our Official Creative Manon is a completely natural style. Ever since she was a child, she’s worked a lot with the colour black, and her drawings were quite decadent. She sees gothic as a force and energy which, combined with her creative work, gives her life meaning and has often helped her through difficult times. That’s why she loves creating everyday clothing so much. Because it touches everyone’s daily life and is part of it. She has overcome burnout three times in the past from sewing colorful, commercial fashion just to pay the rent. Today, she is fully dedicated to her authentic creative work, rejecting fast fashion and prioritizing sustainability and self-expression. Portfolio:
